Bambusa mutabilis
pictures, information and more

Bambusa mutabilis, also known as Emerald bamboo, is a very erect, deep green bamboo that presents a classic Asian look. New culms have a whitish bloom to them. Semi open tropical clumper with small branching which makes gives a nice screen effect. Culms will grow to a height of about 35 feet and 2 inches in diameter and is cold tolerant to about 20 degrees F. Recent discussions have said it to be very similar to Bambusa textilis, and some places are already calling this Bambusa textilis "Mutabilis", even though the two have many distinct features.

The pictures below show new growth from a Bambusa mutabilis propagation taken from division in June 2004. I like this bamboo alot and will be covering most of my back fence with this one in the coming months. Updated pics soon...
