A newer cultivar, Otatea glauca, also known as Mayan Silver bamboo, is a small, tropical clumping bamboo. A tight clumper that produces new culms with a white poweder that fades to a bluish gray as the culms mature. Long, slender weeping leaves, though somewhat larger than Mexican Weeping bamboo. Culms tend to be completely hollow, and should grow to a height of about 20 feet and 1 inch in diameter. Cold hardy to about 20 degrees, maybe even lower. The plant I have is one that was grown from seed and was given to me from a fellow boonut Richard Lindberg. Hopefully we will have some divisions in a couple years.
