Phyllostachys aurea, also known as Golden bamboo, is one of the most commonly grown bamboos throughout the US. It is drought resistant, cold hardy, and very easy to grow, making it a popular choice for screens and hedges. In dryer conditions the new culms will come up distorted on the lower portion of the culm. An aggressive running bamboo, containtment is a must for this bamboo if you live in a residential area to avoid problems with the neighbors. Also does well in loarge containers. Culms can reach a height of about 35 feet and 2 inches in diameter. Culms have many popular uses including cane fishing poles!
