Gran Nain Banana Plant
aka Chiquita Banana

The Gran Nain banana plant is a fast growing banana plant that gets 6 to 8 feet tall and solid green in color. There is some red variegation in juvenile plants but that disappears as the banana plant matures. The Gran Nain is said to produce large heads of sweet fruit, but honestly ours have yet to produce fruit at all. However, it is still a very attractrive banana plant that adds a nice tropical look to the landscape, whether planted in the ground or potted. It is also a widely grown commerical crop, and if you buy Chiquita bananas odds are this is the variety of banana you are purchasing. Cold hardy to Zone 8.
