A noble, stately palm native to Madagascar displaying a stout trunk with bluish-green-silvery fronds. A very dominant landscape speciman that is drought tolerant but not very cold tolerant. Growing ultiamtely to heights of 60 ft with a spread of 20 ft, they are moderate growers that even when juvenile have an impressive leaf spread, even with no visible trunk! I have seen numerous plantings of Bismarkia palms from Orlando and south, but unless you are in a micro-climate, planting these north of Orlando will be taking a chance on survival. I have mine growing in Jacksonville in a pot, and it looks great, but will probably never see life inthe ground here. |
