Cyrtostachys renda
"Red Sealing Wax Palm"

A native of South-East Asia, this striking palm is prized by collectors and valued as such. Also known as the "Lipstick Palm", it's dark green leaves make an excellent contrast on it's bright red crownshaft. Naturally clumping, however, these are recommended for indoors only or grown outside where temps stay above 60 degrees F.

These are also reputed to be difficult to establish, which is probably why the price of these are so much. I can speak from experience that I had a 3 year old seedling just one day shrivel and die with no cause. I have also attempted to grow these form seed, with germination results around 10% and no seedlings living past a few months. I perhaps may try these again when I get a better growing environment for them.
