Native to the mountains of Bolivia, therefore more aptly named the Bolivian coconut tree. A monster palm similar to the Jubaea in diameter, however, the leaves are larger and greener. Rare in cultivation and in the landscape, thought this fast growing palm is very cold and drought tolerant. I had purcahsed about 100 seed from RarePalmSeeds, and only managed to get a couple germinated. Unfortunately I found out later that some of these seeds take years to germinate, so I shouldn't have discarded them after a year. Of those that did germinated, two died and the third I have no idea what happened to it. This is a very impressive palm that is very rarely seen in a neighborhood landscape. I will be trying my hand at these again very soon! |
