A native of South America, this palm is rare in
cultivation but growing in demand. In it's natural environment it
sees periods of little or no rain fall, making it an excellent palm
for dry areas. It is also known to be somewhat cold hardy. Highly
ornamental, it is often referred to as a "less tropical"
coconut tree because of it's feathery leaved fronds.
Our experience with seed germination has been exactly
as most state....difficult. We currently have had 4 out of 100 seeds
germinate, with only 3 surviving so far. It has been said that germination
can take upwards to 2 years.
