A widely used landscape palm, the Queen Palm displays feathery plumes of foliage atop of a stately trunk. A native of South America, this lovely palms is a fast grower, but as it gets older will need more maintenance than other types of palms due to massive amounts of fruit and dead fronds. Seed germiantes easily and young palms can take full sun early on. The pollen is also used to cross with Butia Capitata, resulting in a very cold hardy hybrid. This was one that I had hoped would do well, and has to some extent. However, with our winter temps dipping into the teens this year, quite a bit of our Queen palms were severely damaged, particularily the younger palms. Previous stock of seedlings were lost to the elements, so we currently do not have any of these in stock. You should be able to find this one readily though in local garden centers. |
