The Cecile Brunner climbing rose is a vigourous climbing form of Cecile Brunner, originating in California in 1894. This wonderful rose produces small, fragrant pink flowers that some say resemble pom poms. A repeat bloomer that continues to produce beautiful flowers throught the growing season. Cecile Brunner also thrives well in poor soil, heat, cold, and has very few pest and disease problems. If left to grow unattended or trained on a trellace it is said that it will climb to heights of over 20 feet! Recommended for zones 6 through 9, this was another of the first antique roses in my collection and has performed very well in my NE Florida environment.
The Cecile Brunner I planted in front of my mother's house has in just over 2 years grown from a one gallon propagation to a height of over 9 feet and extends about 8 feet, covering about a third of her front porch lattice! I see why this rose earned the nickname "house eater"!
